Remembering Dick Osing
My
relationship with Dick Osing was short, but memorable. His contributions to
interfaith dialogue and his willingness to speak the truth, even though it
may not have been politically correct, where admirable and courageous. The
Muslim community felt that he was part of them and part of the other
communities that needed to be understood. As the facilitator of the Children
of Abraham, he will be sorely missed and irreplaceable. On behalf of the
Muslim community and the Children of Abraham Steering Committee, we extend
our prayers and best wishes to Dick's family.
Hassan K. Igram, Chairman, The Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids
Dick Osing was a pillar of faithful inquiry. He loved the pursuit of
knowledge, especially around biblical scholarship. He was always finding a
way to improve our community, especially as it related to the leaders of
different faith traditions. This will leave a big void. The real grounding
of Dick was in his relationship with God, and that did not waver.
The Rev. Larry McGuire, President, Inter-Religious Council of Linn County
I
recognized the leadership potential and community-building desire in Dick
Osing.
Imam Ahmed Elkhaldy, President, Muslim American Society Iowa Chapter
Dick Osing
was a very important member of the Cedar Rapids Community. He was a strong
advocate for improving relationships between Jews and Christians. He was a
fine scholar, a good counselor, and a good friend to many. For many years he
was an active member of the Jewish-Christian dialogue. He helped us form
the Children of Abraham. He was one of the first clergy members to welcome
me to Cedar Rapids upon my arrival. I also know that he was a close friend
of Rabbi Chesman. He was a true leader, someone not afraid to stand up for
what he believed in. He will truly be missed. May the memory of Rev. Dick
Osing be for a blessing for all who knew him and benefited from his
knowledge, courage, and leadership.
Aaron Sherman, Rabbi, Temple Judah
